There are so many players at the highest level who do really well with the pick and roll. Watch this quick video of the roller doing these three things: 1. Starts by setting a really good, stationary screen. 2. Rolls quickly and finds the ballhandler with her eyes and hands. 3. Rolls strong to the rim not the baseline or away from the play. But rolls to the rim.

Watch both speeds of the clip. One speed normal and the second speed slow. Three takeaways: #1 - Starts the cut from a dead stop. Or stand still. Really being patient with the screen #2 - Nudges or bumps his defender for some separation. Not pushes, but bumps into the defender. #3 - Runs all the way to meet the ball and not a spot. Keeps going to meet the pass. It's the simple moves that get results. Watch as the ballhandler does three simple things: #1 Attacks the defenders nose. Straight at him! #2. One dribble move. Yep, the in & out dribble is the only dribble move used. #3 Change of speed. Comes up the court with good tempo and then burst by the defender with good footwork. |
