A great counter for the roll is the Slip.
The setting the ballscreen needs to do three things to make the slip work:
1. Act like they are setting the screen.
2. Time the slip just right
3. Cut to the opening or front of the rim.
If a player can combine these options when setting the ballscreen they will be harder to guard. They will have more options for scoring or creating scoring opportunities for their teammates. It also puts pressure on defense to be ready for multiple options.
